It is extremely important to leave the newborns alone. Do NOT touch any of them for about two weeks. Your scent may cause the hamster pup to smell differently. Thus, the mother will confuse her babies for something else and may kill them. The mother hamster will basically take care of everything. All you need to do is make sure that she has an abundant supply of food and fresh drinking water. Don't clean the cage at this time. After the two weeks are over, you may clean the cage. (Make sure that the water bottle is hung low enough for the babies to reach it.) You can then work on taming them when they open their eyes. When the baby hamster are 28 days old, separate them from their mother. If the babies are not given away, it would be a good idea to also separate the males from the females.
