What is Safe/Unsafe to Feed Hamsters

Here is a list of some vegetables, herbs, and fruits that are safe to feed hamsters. If you are unsure of whether to feed your hamster something or not, please don't hesitate to come back to this page or print it out to refer back to at any time. Keep in mind that the safest thing to feed any hamster is high-quality hamster food~



Safe Food:


  • Alfalfa
  • Apple (seedless)
  • Asparagus
  • Avocado (skinned and seedless)
  • Banana
  • Basil

  • Broccoli
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Calabrese
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower leaves and stalks
  • Celery
  • Cherries (the seed should be removed)
  • Chestnuts
  • Chicory
  • Chinese Leaves
  • Coriander
  • Corn-on-the-Cob
  • Corn Salad

  • Lettuce (may cause liver & kidney problems if fed too much)

  • Rhubarb (raw)
  • Rhubarb leaves
  • Tomato leaves

(Warning:
Under NO circumstances feed your hamster chocolate, alcohol, or caffeine as these can cause serious medical problems!)


Drinks:

  • The safest thing your hamster should drink is clean, fresh filtered chlorine-free water. This should be changed daily, if possible.
