(Note: It's important that before playing with your hamster, give it a few days to get used to its home first.)
- The habitat should be glass, plastic, or metal.
- It's best to provide your hamster with the largest cage possible, so it can have plenty of room for playing and exercising.
- Never place the cage under direct sunlight or in a drafty area.
- Cedar bedding isn't recommended because it may cause skin problems for your hamster.
- Adult hamsters of the same genders have to be housed separately, for they may fight.
If you happen to see your hamster stuffing bedding into its mouth, like Rudolph is doing below, there's nothing to be worried about. This just means that your hamster is using its cheek pouches to move bedding from one place to another. It will most likely not eat the bedding, but if it does, your hamster will be just fine. The bedding is made specifically for animals.
There should be 1-2 inches of bedding in your hamster's cage. It's comfortable for your hamster and provides warmth for it as well.

The video is SUPER cute!
Note not to put small items in the habitat for it to choke on. The smaller the hamster the more caution you should use.
